Ledaal Catala Tycho: Character Sheet

Background

I am Ledaal Catala Tycho, and this is my story.

I've never met my parents. I only know of them what others have told me. In fact, I don't even know where I was born. I am the only child of Cathak Artemis and Ledaal Catala Valora. My father was a skilled warrior from the Blessed Isle who was stationed at one of House Cathak's satrapies in the Threshold. My mother was a highly-skilled sorcerer, archaeologist, and member of the Rings of Ledaal Catala, a society dedicated to researching and investigating new and powerful sorcerous methods to combat Deathlords, deathknights, and other Anathema.

I was raised mostly by my mortal grandfather in the Threshold at Ledaal Catala household's Air-aspected manse. Story has it that I simply showed up one day in a basket with only a small note attached. My parents were on a long archaeological expedition north of the Aravice River. They hadn't been heard from months before I showed up, and my arrival only sparked more questions. Some in the family believe they are still alive, but multiple search teams have come up empty. It's been twenty years since my birth with no word from them. I fear the worst, but I vowed to find out what happened to them. It's been a question that's nagged me my whole life.

Nobody doubts I am their child; I'm told I am as good looking as my father and as inquisitive and curious as my mother. There was considerable expectation that I would exalt, and in fact I did. Growing up I was mentored by a few different members of the Rings of Ledaal Catala. They were close friends of my mother and had great interest in seeing me grow up to be just like her. One of them even believes that I am the key to finding her, if she is still alive. They filled my head with all sorts of interesting information from their archives. I took a great interest in first age artifacts and sorcery, and I got the opportunity to accompany them on archaeological adventures at an early age.

My mentors in the Rings of Ledaal Catala expressed interest in sending me to the Heptagram. I, of course, relished the opportunity. My mother had attended and I'm told she spoke of her desire to one day have children that followed in her footsteps. My father, a native of the Isle, would have loved to send his son over there to study. My mentors pulled some strings behind the scenes, completely oblivious to me, and I was accepted; and in what I suspect was part of the deal, I was arranged to marry a young, up-and-coming sorcerer named Sesus Izumi. I would spend the next several years studying sorcery at the Heptagram and building a relationship with my dear Izumi, who I have grown very fond of despite my initial distaste for an arranged marriage.

When I heard Izumi was traveling with Cathak Aden on a post-graduate adventure, I immediately jumped on board. I too was graduating, but not yet ready to go back to the Threshold. I had a strong desire to explore new lands, gain new experience, and spend more time with Izumi. My mentors at the household agreed that it was a good opportunity, so I decided to join them on their journey.

Personality

Tycho is naturally curious and inquisitive, always wanting to know how things work. This applies doubly so to any sort of first age artifacts or sorcery that has eluded generations before him. Mysteries don't sit well with Tycho, and his drive to unravel them can get him into trouble. The mystery surrounding his birth, and his parents' disappearance, nags at him the most.

He can seem a bit aloof at times, if something has captured his attention he tends to ignore other less important things that may be happening.

He is extremely protective of Sesus Izumi if she's in a dangerous situation, despite the fact that she is more than capable of taking care of herself. This annoys her greatly.

Goals & Objectives

  • To learn as much as possible about first age artifacts and sorcery and to make new breakthroughs that Ledaal Catala household has been researching for generations.
  • To become a distinguished member of the Rings of Ledaal Catala, to live up to and exceed the reputation established by his mother.
  • To find out what happened to his parents, Cathak Artemis and Ledaal Catala Valora.
  • To build a successful marriage with Sesus Izumi and leverage it to improve Ledaal Catala's status in the Realm.

Retainers

  • Severen was a cook for Tycho's parents long before he was born. He went on almost every trip with the pair, however he was in ill health when they departed for the fateful expedition that they did not return from. He specializes in food from the Threshold and, despite being a cook, has a wide range of archaeological knowledge he gained over the years. He is older and more frail than Tycho's other retainers, but makes up for it in the high quality food, and wisdom.
  • Ankara was recently hired from Imperial City to serve as the group's scout. She is young and inexperienced, but skilled with a bow and quite agile. She was under some expectation to exalt, but those expectations dwindled over time. She made her living as a hunter after being rejected by the Realm's more prestigious schools. She has a laid back personality, stemming from a childhood ignoring the constant pressures placed on her by her family and society.
  • Malam Aristide is a loyal, veteran combatant from Ledaal Catala household. He has spent his years protecting the Rings of Ledaal Catala. He accompanied Tycho at the request of one of the members of the Rings of Ledaal Catala, a good friend of Tycho's mother. She felt Tycho needed a loyal bodyguard, loyal to both Tycho and the household's interests.
  • Serykh is an aspiring healer and cousin of Sesus Izumi. She was included in Tycho's party despite Izumi's objections; Izumi did not want the responsibility of a young family member tagging along on such a dangerous expedition. However, due to pressure from within the family, Serykh was included and would be serving a dual role as healer as well as handling the administrative tasks of the group.
  • T.B.D. is a guide Tycho plans to hire when they reach the South.
