Briefing

FATE has been monitoring Drakes Nuclear Power Station since its opening. Recently, nightly shipments have been made between the power station and facilities near the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. The shipments consist of one unmarked semi-truck with a heavily armed escort. FATE wants to know what's contained in the shipment and what they are doing with it.

The Golden Gate Transit Authority has suddenly scheduled a bridge closure for 3:00 AM. Director Redman doubts the bridge is being closed for "maintenance" as the bulletin suggests. The team is encouraged to bring back a sample of the shipment, as security at the Golden Gate Bridge is less stringent than that of the Drakes plant or the armored escort supplied by Shiawase.

Major Players & Locations

  • The Golden Gate Bridge still exists, connecting northern San Francisco to Marin County. It is 135 years old and has undergone extensive retrofitting and reinforcement. It is a known mana domain (rating 2) aspected toward hermetic magic and part of a larger ley line that runs along the California coast.
  • The Presidio (south) and Golden Gate Wildlife Zone (north) haven't been recreation areas since the Awakening. These areas are known to contain paracritters of many kinds.
  • The Golden Gate Transit Authority is a subsidiary of the Mitsuhama Corporation. Security for the bridge and its facilities is contracted out to Lone Star.

Notes

  • FATE's team stipend balance: 3,000¥
  • There is a 6,000¥ bonus per character if a sample of the shipment is returned.
  • For this assignment the team is not representing FATE in official capacity. They are shadowrunners.

Session Synopsis

The group decided that the best way to get their hands on this shipment was to take out the truck and its escort on California Route 1. The group purchased a Nordkapp Zugmaschine to tow the trailer after they take out the convoy. They also rented a jet-ski as a backup escape plan. Hector, using commercial explosives, created a barricade of boulders across the road, blocking it. He waited on the other side of the boulder with the semi-truck. Anastasia, with an Aztechnology Striker with anti-vehicle missiles and a Ranger Arms SM-4 sniper rifle, set up on a cliff 50 meters above the road. Eric and Doc were hanging from the edge of the road with microwire, ready to jump up and ambush the convoy.

The convoy fell into the trap, stopping at the blockade. Hector jammed their communications while Anastasia fired the first rocket at the rear Toyota Coaster (humvee). The rocket severely damaged the vehicle and killed all 4 occupants. The security personnel in the front vehicle returned fire, wounding Anastasia severely. She lost balance and nearly fell off the cliff. After hanging for a moment and taking fire, she managed to pull herself up and back into cover.

Eric and Doc climbed onto the road, surprising the enemy from the side. They took down a magician in the semi-truck and engaged in a gunfight with the security personnel from the front humvee. They diverted their attention away from Anastasia and toward the two. Eric's mana bolts and Doc's gunfire managed to take out the remaining combatants.

Along with the shipment they were after, the group confiscated the following notable equipment:

  • 4 Ares Alpha assault rifles
  • 1 Toyota Coaster (SUV) with mounted Stoner-Ares M202 medium machine gun
  • 1 Shiawase Jaianto with trailer
  • 1 California condor talon (Force 3 Summoning Focus)

Evander forced the group to return the tractor trailer they purchased, much to Doc's dismay.

The following was charged to the team stipend account:

  • 100¥ jet-ski rental
  • 100¥ commercial explosives
  • 300¥ 600 meters of microwire
  • 70¥ rappeling gloves

Aftermath

Doc established an encrypted communications link with J.P. Redman. "Sir, we have the tractor-trailer. We're going through Richmond now, going to take the Nishi-Tokyo bridge back over." ((The Oakland Bay bridge was destroyed in the 2048 earthquake. It was rebuilt and renamed the "West Tokyo" bridge under General Saito's rule in the 60's.)) "Anastasia is wounded but stable. Eric is taking her back to HQ."

Redman responded. "Good work. I'm going to send you the location of a warehouse in Oakland. Meet us there instead." The transmission ended.

Hector and Doc made their way to the specified warehouse in Oakland where Redman, Evander, and Dr. Yau were waiting for them. Evander was carrying some scanning equipment and immediately set to work, sweeping the outside of the truck for tracking devices. The rest of the group moved to the back. The rear of the trailer was scorched black and dented in various places.

"Let's see what we have inside, shall we?" Dr. Yau said with some excitement in his voice. Doc opened the trailer, revealing two very large pieces of equipment. They looked like they could be generators or another piece of heavy duty electrical equipment and they probably weighed at least a ton each. Dr. Yau immediately climbed up into the trailer to examine them.

Redman turned to Doc. "How's Anastasia?"

"She took a few bullets but I think she will be fine." he replied.

Evander interrupted them and held up a small device. "Found it. There are two more signals coming from the trailer." He looked up at the cargo. "I'll clear those as well."

Redman spoke to the group, "Alright, let's get moving. It won't be long before the corps come looking us." Evander was already busy replacing the license plates on the truck.
